Red 5: Open Source
Flash Media Server

Red5 streams audio, video and data to and from the flash plugin live and on demand so there is no need to wait for the progressive video to load, as you can experience the freedom of on demand streaming. Connect your webcam, and you can broadcast live or record video right from your browser.

The project aims to build the ideal server platform for media and rich media applications and best of all, its open source. That creates a world of possibilities to change the web for the better. Now anyone can use or extend red5.

Codegent's technical director Luke Hubbard pioneered this project with John Grden who proposed the idea to the OSFlash project in 2005. Over the past few years Red5 has become one of the largest open source flash projects with many talented developers from around the globe joining the team and contributing to the project. Every day the community grows as word spreads. There are hundreds of people on the mailing list, presentations being given at industry events from Amsterdam to Hollywood... and even talk of a book in the works!

We at codegent are happy to report that the recent 0.7 release is now stable enough for full production to commence and we are already working up some demos to help clients understand how we can use red5 to enhance their websites. These demos are not online yet, but you can have a sneak peak of "Trailer Park" below. Get in touch to find out more.
